Good question Gary. IIRC most of their life.
If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants. Newton. All tech goes through a life cycle, solar needs to and will do the same. Most glass and building products will be solar, it will be as ubiquitous as chips are today. Building, cars and perhaps roads will all be solar collectors. Our power needs are going through the round the bend of the nasty start of the exponential curve heading towards vertical. Solar will cost less and use less energy to produce.
The problem is like flash memory, solar is a commodity product with limited opportunities to differenitate yourself, but there will be winners.
