In the case of Wrist vs Saw, the saw won. I’m off to the doctors in a few minutes to get some stitches. My accident, which is a nicer way of saying my stupidity, actually happened on Saturday. I was hoping to heal thy self, but alas upon seeing my tendon my wife insisted I seek medical attention. “Yes dear”, is the only appropriate response.

GSK release their quarterly results this Wednesday, the live audio webcast will commence at 13:30 GMT on Wednesday 28th October 2009, that’s 00.30 Thursday East Coast Australia. The Biota share price has been incredibly volatile of late and I’d wager will be after the announcement.

This week, wrist permitting, I hope to:

• Upload some investing spreadsheets which I’ve collected over the years.
• Write about when to buy stocks, with a focus on getting started and constructing a portfolio.
• Cover the GSK announcement as it pertains to Biota and Relenza.

I just added this blog to my own Google Reader. I was surprised to see only part of my text appear, my posts were all cut short. I had to click through to this site to read the entire text. Strange I thought, none of the other blogs I subscribe to have this ‘feature’. While I’d like people to come to this site and interact with me, I don’t expect people to have to come to the site. I’d find it annoying if all the blogs I subscribe to had this same feature.

I use WordPress. I dug around and found ‘For each article in a feed, show Full text or summary’, that’s under Settings->Reading for anyone as hopeless as me, who never noticed that setting.  So I switched that to Full text, pinged FeedBurner and nothing happened.

So, now an hour later and still no change I’m wondering if the setting only applies to new posts, hence this post to test that out.

By the way I only started using Google Reader a month or so back and have found it to be a great tool. OK that should be enough text for my test!

Ten minutes later.

Hooray! That worked and magically all my old posts now appear as full text as well. Now if only Google Reader would align my images as I do, or I guess if only I could work out how to ensure Feed Readers displayed my images as WordPress does then I’d be a happy chappy. That’s weird, now that I scroll down further I see it is not all my old posts. Maybe it simply takes time to update all of them. Oh well good enough for me. Enjoy the full text all.

This is a quick note to reassure readers that you’re not alone, but you are in very select company.

After more than a year of blogging and blurting here are some stats from this site. I thought some of you may be interested.

• There are currently 52 RSS readers, the all time high of 56 was hit last week.
• There have been over 2,000 unique visitors every month this year. March was the highest with 2,542 unique visitors, but May looks likely to set a new record.
• On average each visitor comes 2.4 times a month, i.e. there are over 5,000 visits a month.
• On average each visitor views 4.5 pages per visit.
• The vast majority of visitors are from the USA and Australia. Last year it was predominately visitors from USA, but Australia has been gaining ground this year. Strangely Russia and the Philippines take a distant 3rd and 4th spots. My guess is that is bloggers from entrecard, but who knows.
• Money is not the motivating factor for this site, which is lucky as it generates close to zero. I’m simply reporting on it here for any bloggers that are interested. I’ve had one $100 payment from Adsense, back in January. I now have a balance of $53, so I’ll probably get another payment later this year. There has been one click through to Amazon, but no purchases, so I’ve got no idea how much Amazon pay. There are probably other ways to monetise a blog, but I’m just not that interested.

[Update: A good friend has launched his second range of hairdressing scissors. They are fantastic scissors available at amazing prices. I think he'll do well.]

T-7 Decision to move

First Step is to incorporate the pages from the main site within this blog. So over the coming days I’ll be publishing the pages from fusioninvesting.com under this blog. I will edit the pages over time. Which will be a lot easier now that’ll I’m cloud computing with WordPress. Rather than desktop based html editor and ftp, that I used for the original site. Still it was good to get familar with basic html code.

School holidays have started here in Australia so I’ll be blogging less over the next six weeks.

I’d like to thank the Australian government for the $300 bonus for my youngest starting school in 2009. That’s three times more than this this site has generated in nine months. Hey, I’m not complaining, before I started blogging I viewed ads with disdain…actually worse than that, ads didn’t ever register on my visual cortex.

My partner occasionally asks why I bother blogging and who my target audience is? Sensible questions. I might post my answers in the New Year. There are 31 subscribers to this blog and around 200 unique visitors a day. Everyone of you warms the cockles of my heart, thanks for allowing my musing in to your life.

I hope everyone has a wonderful festive season and a happy and healthy New Year.

I’ve finally found a good free wordpress magazine style theme, thanks to this great list of free magazine themes. So let the site upgrade to Arthemia Magazine style begin.

Arthemia combines “a magazine and a weblog into one; it is not too magazine-ish nor too blog-ish.” I like it ‘cos it displays a lot on the front page with a clean uncluttered design. On the downside is no clear RSS links for feed or email, though that should be easy to sort out,

It would be great to hear what you think of the new theme. Though, please give me a day or three to sort out the kinks.
